Hoc Est Corpus, 2002, neon sign, 120 x 92 x 10cm

Hoc Est Corpus (this is his body) is the Latin phrase uttered by a priest at the moment of the host’s miraculous transubstantiation during the Catholic mass. Displayed site-specifically in the window of a commercial magic shop in Sheffield, Hoc Est Corpus links the phrase to its lay corruption ‘hocus pocus’.
